Says Joel: “Together with two private equity partners and a colleague with whom I have worked for nearly 20 years, we acquired SCI Solutions in July 2011. SCI operates the industry’s leading electronic medical record-agnostic physician referral and outpatient order management platform measured by transaction volumes. Processing more than 1.5 billion transactions annually for 550 hospitals and nearly 60,000 physicians, SCI’s network combined with its Order Facilitator® and Schedule Maximizer® offerings remain the most ubiquitous referral management and network scheduling platforms in the health industry. Both offerings are ranked among the Best in KLAS™ by KLAS Research.
Leadership is a solitary duty. CEOs are required to deal with issues, make difficult decisions, rationalize between conflicting priorities and be singularly accountable for performance commitments. This is a lonely responsibility not very well understood by board members, investors or line management. Ivo Nelson and I have known each other since about 1994. Our nearly 20-year relationship centers on trust and mutual respect. Since he has successfully led technology companies as CEO, brings a strategic mindset and strong Rolodex of industry executive relationships, 18 months ago I asked Ivo to serve on SCI’s Executive Advisory Board to help me navigate issues that are typical for rapidly growing technology companies in our industry. In this capacity he has challenged me, provided some introductions and shared valuable perspectives as a peer who has also run companies -– he is not a consultant or a sales guy. I greatly value his perspective.”
